<\/p>\nThe Grupo Multimedia Jiennense<\/b> received this Friday the 2025 Local Journalism and Communication Award<\/b>, granted by the Diputaci\u00f3n Provincial de Ja\u00e9n<\/b> to recognize the best works across various categories. The report directed by journalist Alfonso Fern\u00e1ndez for the program Al Detalle<\/i> on Diez Televisi\u00f3n won the award in the television category. The piece focuses on the remains of the Iberian civilization and the museum that will house them in the capital city of Ja\u00e9n.<\/p>\n
The president of the Diputaci\u00f3n Provincial de Ja\u00e9n<\/b>, Francisco Reyes, encouraged media professionals to \u00abkeep practicing high-quality and close-to-home journalism\u00bb because it is what \u00abinterests citizens the most.\u00bb<\/p>\n
Reyes made these remarks at the Ba\u00f1os \u00c1rabes Cultural Center<\/b> in Ja\u00e9n during the presentation of the awards. In this 2025 edition, the accolades also went to Elisabeth Ruiz, Tom\u00e1s D\u00edaz, Esther Garrido, and Antonio Ca\u00f1ada, in addition to Marta Curiel, who received a special mention.<\/p>\n
During his speech, Reyes noted that the winners \u00abpersonify the excellence of this noble and essential craft of journalists and photojournalists.\u00bb He added that the media plays \u00aba fundamental role in a democratic society like ours.\u00bb<\/p>\n
For Reyes, this statement, \u00abno matter how often it is used, does not lose its value or relevance.\u00bb Instead, \u00abit is more vital than ever, especially in times like these, when hard-earned rights and freedoms achieved over many years are being questioned, and where we cannot afford to take steps backward.\u00bb<\/p>\n
\u00abGood journalism, journalism with a capital J, the kind practiced by so many professionals and serious, rigorous media outlets, is indispensable in our society, even if its relevance is sometimes diminished or questioned,\u00bb Reyes said.<\/p>\n
At this point, he stressed that \u00abwithout journalism, without freedom of expression and information, there is no democracy.\u00bb Therefore, in his view, it is \u00abcrucial to confront the proliferation of pseudo-media, pseudo-journalists, and social agitators who exploit new technologies and social networks to spread fake news and hoaxes, ultimately generating social tension.\u00bb<\/p>\n
To counter these practices, Reyes pointed to journalistic examples like those recognized by these awards, which the Diputaci\u00f3n Provincial de Ja\u00e9n<\/b> has organized for over 15 years to support the profession and \u00abhighlight the value of local journalism\u2014the kind done on the ground in our towns and cities.\u00bb<\/p>\n
This is a type of journalism that \u00abtells what happens to us: our progress, our problems, our demands, our stories, our successes; the kind that portrays the reality of our province and life in our towns and cities.\u00bb<\/p>\n
These awards aim to \u00abfoster rigorous, objective, honest, and independent journalism that addresses the issues that matter most to our residents, and that interest is almost always found in what is closest to us.\u00bb<\/p>\n

This is evident in the report by Elisabeth Ruiz, who won the written press category. Her work focuses on the village of Belerda, where the old tradition of washing clothes in public laundries is still preserved. \u00abIt is one of those small yet great stories that captivate and reveal the true essence of a land like ours, which must be remembered and shared,\u00bb the president of the Diputaci\u00f3n Provincial de Ja\u00e9n<\/b> emphasized.<\/p>\n
Another of this year\u2019s winning pieces addresses \u00abthe very different reality of seasonal workers, many of them foreigners, who travel to our province every year for the olive harvest.\u00bb This story, told by Tom\u00e1s D\u00edaz on COPE Ja\u00e9n, earned the award in the radio category. They are \u00abstories of life, humanity, and solidarity,\u00bb Reyes pointed out.<\/p>\n
The photography award went to Esther Garrido for her series of snapshots of the Church of Santo Domingo, published in the digital newspaper Ja\u00e9n Hoy<\/i>. This work, as Reyes noted, \u00abhas brought people closer to the richness, unknown to many, of this monumental space in Ja\u00e9n’s historic center, which the Diputaci\u00f3n Provincial de Ja\u00e9n<\/b> is currently renovating with European funds from the Government of Spain.\u00bb<\/p>\n
Regarding the final category, digital press, Reyes praised the work of Antonio Ca\u00f1ada for his report \u00abon the linguistic peculiarities of the province,\u00bb also published in Ja\u00e9n Hoy<\/i>. He described it as \u00abone of those stories that you start reading and just can’t stop until the end because of its originality, depth, and closeness.\u00bb A reading experience that, he added, \u00abalso happens with the piece on transhumance by Marta Curiel, published in the digital edition of El Pa\u00eds<\/i>.\u00bb<\/p>\n
Lastly, Reyes underscored modern society’s \u00aburgent\u00bb need for \u00abgood journalism,\u00bb especially \u00abin times like these, where we are overwhelmed by information, and particularly by misinformation.\u00bb<\/p>\n
It is about committing\u2014he said\u2014to a journalism that \u00abvalues training, experience, and freshness, practiced under dignified professional conditions, and carried out with honesty and respect for the truth.\u00bb<\/p>\n
